WEF awards 13 communities for excellence in stormwater management

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has recognised 13 communities for their excellence in stormwater management, including exceeding permit requirements and sharing knowledge with the water sector.
The municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) programmes were selected as part of the National Municipal Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Awards, a programme developed by WEF in cooperation with the US Environmental Protection Agency. The winners will be honoured on 11 Oct at Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTC), held in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. The WEFTC is a conference on water technology held in North America, featuring an array of products and services in the water quality industry.

Winners of the 2022 Phase I MS4 Awards:

  • Overall winner: Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, Maryland
  • Programme management winner: City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Enterprise, Colorado
  • Innovation winner: Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, Maryland

Winners of the 2022 Phase II MS4 Awards:

  • Overall winner: City of Frisco, Stormwater Division Texas
  • Programme management winner: St. Louis MS4 Co-permittee Group, Missouri
  • Innovation winner: City of Richmond, Stormwater Utility, Virginia

In addition to the winners, each applicant has been designated a gold, silver, or bronze level status in both programme management and innovation. This signifies their status among other MS4 communities across the country who have also participated in this year’s award programme.

Gold recognition in programme management:

  • Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District, Kentucky

Phase II:

  • Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas

  • City of San Marcos, Texas

Gold recognition in innovation:
