The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has begun accepting applications for its 2018 Water Leadership Institute.
The Water Leadership Institute programme is aimed at educating and training emerging leaders and providing them with opportunities to build strong, lasting relationships within the water sector. This intensive programme allows participants to engage in management training and leadership development through a blended learning approach that includes examining complex challenges facing the water and wastewater industries and networking with public and private sector practitioners.
“The future of the water sector depends on developing and encouraging a pool of talented, dedicated water professionals,” WEF Executive Director, Eileen O’Neill, said. “The Water Leadership Institute is focused on that objective, and we are proud to have a hand in preparing the next generation of water sector leaders.”
The Water Leadership Institute curriculum includes a series of monthly web-based meetings and group activities and an in-person meeting at WEF’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, United States (U.S.). The meetings are facilitated by guest instructors from water and wastewater utilities, government agencies, communication firms, and financial organisations.
The 2018 Water Leadership Institute will culminate with a workshop during WEFTEC, the Water Environment Federation’s 91st Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference, which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. The 2018 participants will be the Institute’s seventh class, and will join 183 alumni members following the completion of the program.
The newly established George S. Hawkins Scholarship is available this year to help offset the cost of the Institute. All applicants are eligible for the scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition. WEF will award the scholarship to one participant who has demonstrated a desire to continue to develop his or her skills and is focused on continued involvement in the evolving water sector. The deadline to apply is the 31st of January, 2018.
