Veolia, through its subsidiary OTV, has been awarded by the Tunisian nationalsanitation office (ONAS) the contract for the design and construction of the wastewater treatment plant for the Monastir Technopole and textile polishing park, along with the collection of raw sewage and discharge of treated water. During the initial phase, the plant, located 170 km from Tunis, will have a treatment capacity of 6,000 m3/day
(100,000 PE).
OTV will deliver the project in partnership with the Austrian company GIS Aqua Austria GmbH (consortium leader), and the Tunisian company Bouzguenda Frères Bâtiments et Travaux Publics. The works will be achieved within a 32-month program. As part of this project, ONAS, in partnership with the Monastir Governorship and Monastir El Fejja Competitiveness Cluster, signed an agreement for the study, design and construction of the industrial wastewater treatment plant for the Monastir Technopole Park.
“The wastewater treatment plant will enable – in compliance with international standards – the development of the highly expected ennobling industrial zone, thus consolidating the textile industry. This plant will optimize operating costs, thereby improving the competitiveness of the companies through rational wastewater management”, declared Ms Neila Nouira Gongi, president of the Monastir El Fejja Competitiveness Cluster.
“Our aim is to improve the quality of the treated wastewater to allow its use in other fields of activity”, added Mr Habib Omrane, CEO of ONAS.
