At IFAT 2016, TÜV SÜD will showcase its services at two stands. The experts from TÜV SÜD Industrie Service will provide information at the stand of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall, DWA) (Stand EWE.1), while the experts from TÜV SÜD Water Services will present their service portfolio at the stand of German Water Desalination (Deutsche Meerwasserentsalzung, DME) (Stand EWE.3). IFAT 2016 will take place in Munich from 30 May to 3 June 2016.
“At the DWA stand, we will present our broad range of services in the field of water and environmental analysis for water providers, municipalities, property managers and industry”, explains André Croissant, Project Manager Wastewater Technology at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH in Mannheim. “One of our focal topics involves the multi-faceted and complex normative requirements regarding the quality of raw and potable water.” They are based on EU Directive 98/83/EC, which in Germany is implemented into national law by the Potable Water Regulation (TrinkwV 2001).
Focus: Membrane systems for seawater desalination
“We expect investments in the construction and modernisation of water infrastructure to increase worldwide over the coming years”, says Gerald R. Kresta, Head of Business Development at TÜV SÜD Water Services in Singapore. “We help customers to use water efficiently and ensure additional and more cost-effective supply.” The topics of water reuse and recycling are of particular interest for industry. Seawater desalination mainly concerns the public sector – and to some extent industrial facilities own captive desalination plants.
“We support desalination of seawater with membrane systems in two ways”, explains Kresta. “Firstly, we support our customers in improving performance of existing plants where we still see a lot of potential. Secondly, we offer quality assurance and control for the construction of new plants or major expansion of existing plants”. In existing plants the company’s focus lies on energy efficiency, reduced use of chemicals and improved cleaning procedures. These services require extensive knowledge of the reverse osmosis process at the element level.
The activities provided by TÜV SÜD Water Services extend from planning, environmental impact assessments, construction and commissioning. They also include testing, inspection and autopsy of membranes in TÜV SÜD’s own independent testing laboratories. TÜV SÜD is a member of both the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) and the German Water Desalination Association (DME).
