On the heels of their successful partnership with Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. in the United States (U.S.) in 2016, Royal HaskoningDHV has extended the license for their Nereda® granular biomass wastewater treatment to include Canada, according to a joint release by Royal HaskoningDHV and Aqua-Aerobic Systems.
Now the exclusive provider of Nereda technology in the U.S. and Canada, Aqua-Aerobic Systems is stepping up its implementation of aerobic granular sludge technology in North America.
Nereda is at the forefront of an evolution in activated sludge treatment that reproduces the same effluent quality as a well-designed biological nutrient removal (BNR) facility, but without the use of chemicals. Instead, the process relies on the patented aerobic granular sludge technology. The Nereda process, with its greatly reduced footprint and low energy requirement, offers a competitive alternative for high performance plants and, thus, an excellent fit for the U.S. and Canadian markets. The introduction of more rigorous water quality requirements has also reinforced a further need for Nereda.
“In the last six months plus we have found that the Nereda technology satisfies all of the requirements we look for in a next generation biological process; enhanced biological nutrient removal, lower operational and capital costs, and smaller footprint,” Vice President – Process Group at Aqua-Aerobic Systems Inc., James Horton, said. “This is the game changer the industry has been waiting for and we are excited to be able to offer it in Canada too.”
In western Canada, the Nereda technology will be represented by Waste n Watertech. “Given the progressive tightening of BNR effluent requirements here in Canada, Waste n Watertech is constantly on the lookout for innovative biological processes that tackle these challenges more efficiently,” Vice President – Engineering Sales at Waste n Watertech, Dominic Janssen, stated, “We identified the Nereda process back in 2015 as exactly as what we were looking for, and are extremely happy to now be the exclusive gateway of this technology in our territory. The fact that Aqua-Aerobic Systems is the company to bring this produce to the North American market only magnifies our belief in this technology’s potential.”
