Water supply company Ekopak, which specialises in decentralised circular water solutions such as water-as-a-service (WaaS), selected NX Filtration, the global provider of direct nanofiltration (dNF) membrane technology for pure and affordable water, to supply its dNF membranes for the extension of a rainwater recovery project in Belgium.

The project aims to reduce dependency on groundwater and uses rainwater, that is gathered in a local pond, as a source for high-quality water production for industrial use. NX Filtration’s membranes play an important role in this process, as these remove micropollutants, colour and selective salts, as well as bacteria, viruses, and nano plastics, from water. The technology also requires less energy compared to traditional treatment technologies and avoids the use of chemicals in operations.
After a series of pilot tests, Ekopak developed a dNF based water treatment system with a capacity of 20m3/h in Q2 of 2022. Based on positive results, this installation is now expanded with 40m3/h additional capacity.
Ekopak’s CEO Pieter Loose said: “We are happy to continue this partnership with NX Filtration, as their direct nanofiltration membranes efficiently remove a wide range of contaminations as well as offer sustainability benefits that are aligned with Ekopak’s core values.”
Michiel Staatsen, CEO at NX Filtration, added: “We are proud to be working with Ekopak, a likeminded partner with strong ESG values that is dedicated to contributing to the water transition. We believe our technology and Ekopak’s differentiating market proposition can unlock opportunities for sustainable water treatment.”
