Memsift Innovations joins hands with PILLER, setting new benchmark for industrial liquid-waste treatment

Singapore-based industrial liquid-waste treatment specialist Memsift Innovations and German based Blowers & Compressors manufacturer PILLER have executed a cooperation agreement in the form of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combine efforts and expertise to setup a new benchmark for industrial liquid-waste treatment and zero liquid discharge.

Memsift’s thermal separation process and membranes are based on innovative patented technologies that provide unique benefits over traditional brine treatment and zero liquid discharge solutions in small-to-medium scale. Memsift’s TS-30TM system uses an innovative thermodynamic principle based thermal separation process and a proprietary membrane STOMATE® that brings down the industrial effluents treatment cost significantly. Memsift was determined to further enhance the energy efficiency of its thermal membrane system by integrating energy efficient sub systems to make a new benchmark for industrial liquid-waste treatment and zero liquid discharge to recover maximum water and the valuable resources from the industrial liquid-waste. It would be advantageous to work with an energy efficient subsystem manufacturer to customise the subsystem to fit with its thermal membrane process to reduce the energy consumption to a new level.

PILLER SEA Pte Ltd is the regional office for South East Asia, Oceania, Taiwan, and Korea under PILLER Blowers & Compressors Gmbh, the leader in Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) Blowers. PILLER has offered centrifugal MVR Blowers since the 1980s, which has been applied in various industries such as dairy, petrochemical, chemical and beverage processing. Through their continuous improvement program, PILLER has an improved solution for low flow MVR applications-the VapoFan series.

This series of MVR Blowers offers advanced performance with improved reliability in a compact standard equipment offering. The VapoFan series is a complete system consisting of vertically arranged blower with support structure, a high-speed motor and a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) with machinery monitoring instruments mounted in a standalone control cabinet. The VapoFan is a compact and standardised design for lower cost and shorter delivery with perfectly matched blower and motor for mass flows from 200kg/hr to 5,000kg/hr that match with Memsift’s current focus.

This resemblance brings the companies together to enter into this agreement to work together to develop a prototype industrial liquid-waste treatment system by integrating Piller’s high speed MVR Blowers VapoFan with Memsift’s TS-30TM system to make a new benchmark for liquid-waste treatment and zero liquid discharge.

Dr J. Antony Prince, Founder & CEO, Memsift Innovations said, “This is a very important step in the full-scale commercialisation of our TS-30TM system. This partnership will allow us to tap the world class German technology and the expertise to demonstrate a low- temperature (60°C-80°C) liquid-waste treatment system that will reduce the energy consumption by up to 90% when compared to conventional liquid-waste incineration methods. This will not only make a new benchmark in the energy usage for industrial liquid-waste treatment but also reduces the carbon footprint by at least 10X compared to conventional incineration/evaporation methods while recovering every drop of water and the valuable resources to close the loop and save the environment.”

Dieter Knoblich, CEO, Piller SEA Pte Ltd said, “We are excited to work together with Memsift by providing a cost-effective and energy-efficient liquid-waste treatment solution for low mass flows. Once again we prove that PILLER Blowers are a key element in thermal separation processes – also and especially in terms of energy and CO2 reduction.”
