Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2018 marks ten years since the first edition of the event. To commemorate this special occasion, PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, has partnered Brewerkz, the original Singapore craft brewery since 1997, to craft a special beer brewed using NEWater, Singapore’s brand of high-grade, ultra-clean recycled water, to be served during SIWW, from 8 to 12 July 2018.
Named NEWBrew by PUB Singapore, the beer was crafted using 1,920 litres of NEWater, yeast, British malts and hops from the United States (U.S.). Brewerkz, Singapore’s longest running restaurant and microbrewery, delivered a total of 900 litres of NEWBrew specially for SIWW 2018. The special brew will be served at the SIWW Welcome Reception, Hot Issues Workshop on Potable Water Reuse and at Industry Night.
“We are honoured to be the first brewery in the world to design a brew made with NEWater. The quality of NEWater is as good as it gets, and this is doubly special as the brew is crafted in celebration of SIWW’s decade of innovation and excellence in water – a key ingredient in the art of beer making,” said Sean McLin, Managing Director and Head Brewer of Brewerkz.
“NEWater has been a part of Singapore’s water supply since 2003 and is a key pillar in ensuring Singapore’s water sustainability. This ultra-clean, ultra-high-quality recycled water is the result of PUB’s investments in research and technology, and is well within international standards of safe drinking water,” said Bernard Tan, Managing Director of Singapore International Water Week. “We are happy to partner with Brewerkz to develop a special one-off brew that we can all – safely – toast. We look forward to another decade of excellence at SIWW!”
Produced by treating used water and further purifying it using advanced membrane technologies and ultraviolet disinfection, NEWater has passed more than 150,000 scientific tests, and is ultra-clean and entirely wholesome. With its high quality, NEWater is preferred by industries that require ultra-clean water, such as wafer fabrication, electronics, and power generation. NEWater is also used to top up Singapore’s reservoirs, and is thus also a source of drinking water.
Over the past decade, SIWW has facilitated the commercialisation of innovative solutions to address global water challenges. Close to S$55 billion in total value of business deals have been announced at SIWW over the past decade, reaffirming the continued vibrancy of Singapore as a global hydrohub. SIWW, a leading global platform for business networking, solutions and technology is also a catalyst to companies growing in tandem with the event over the years.
