The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) and the Asia Pacific Desalination and Reuse Association (APDRA) have signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement to strengthen collaboration in desalination, water reuse, membrane technology and integrated water resource management.
The partnership will connect APDRA’s regional network of water professionals and institutions with IDRA’s global platform. The two organisations will work together on stakeholder engagement, technical publications and knowledge exchange, while coordinating participation in each other’s conferences and training programmes.
They will also conduct periodic strategic reviews to identify joint initiatives focused on capacity building and technical leadership.
The agreement comes as investment in desalination and water reuse continues to expand across the Asia-Pacific region. Countries including Australia, Singapore, India, China and the Pacific Islands are developing advanced water treatment infrastructure to address population growth, urbanisation and increasing climate variability.
“This agreement gives IDRA and APDRA a structure to deliver that, through business and technical collaboration, shared access to events and training, and the kind of regular coordination that turns a partnership into sustained activity,” said Shannon K McCarthy, secretary general of IDRA. “We want our members on both sides to see and take part in what this produces.”
APDRA, formerly known as the Asia Pacific Desalination Association (APDA), and IDRA have previously collaborated on industry activities. The new agreement establishes a framework for continued cooperation between the two independent associations.
“APDRA remains committed to advancing knowledge exchange and collaboration worldwide in pursuit of water security and sustainable water solutions,” said Li Youqing, president of APDRA.
