The International Desalination Association (IDA) welcomes formal bids to host the 2026 IDA world congress on desalination and water reuse solutions to be submitted by 20 Dec 2023.
Over four decades, the IDA world congress played a role in fostering innovation, technical development, and business exchange among stakeholders focused on water sustainability. In addition to an industry-wide exhibition, a four-day peer-reviewed technical programme with networking sessions, the world congress includes a leaders’ summit, hackathons and roundtable sessions. The leaders’ summit gathers executives from sectors such as finance, legal, project development, public and private utilities, and technical solution providers, to discuss offsetting water scarcity. Held every two years, the congress is for the global desalination and water reuse community and is attended by delegates from over 60 countries.

IDA designates five regions in this process: Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, North America, and Asia-Pacific. Destination considerations are based on criteria outlined in the bid package. Support from local agencies, public sector leaders, and the local private sector is valued. After the IDA site selection committee’s official review and scoring process, a site inspection is conducted at the top three bid locations. The selection process is concluded with a recommendation to the IDA board for final selection in April 2024. The selected bidder of the 2026 world congress will join the roster of past world congress hosts worldwide.
