The International Desalination Association (IDA) will present its seventh Action4Good International Conference, May 12-14, 2019 in Santa Margherita, Italy. With its theme, “Creating Resilient Solutions to Water Needs,” the conference will address critical water, energy and environmental issues and examine the role of advanced water treatment solutions in meeting growing clean water needs. The conference will take place at the Grand Miramare Hotel, located on the Corniche of Santa Margherita, Italy.
The programme will be held under the patronage of the Comune di Genova and the Governor of the Liguria Region, and is developed in cooperation with the Rotary Club of La Spezia and Lunigiana as well as the IDA Sustainable Water Resources Foundation (SWRF). With the support of IDA’s Affiliate, the European Desalination Society, and partnership agreements with such organisations as the UN FAO, Global Clean Water Desalination Alliance, GreeningTheIslands.net, and the Global Solar Council, the conference technical programme will focus on energy and environmental issues related to desalination and water reuse projects.
Topics will include the Water-Energy-Food nexus, non-conventional means of supplying water, and the growing role of renewable energy in the water solutions. Continuing in the tradition of IDA’s Humanitarian Outreach Program that was introduced in 2011, space has been allocated in the technical programme to address emergency solutions that can enable a supply of potable water to areas affected by humanitarian disasters.
“This conference follows a long and successful history of IDA Action4Good events focused on social responsibility. IDA supports an H20-C02 target and advocates the critical role that energy efficiency, renewable energy and minimization of environmental impact in desalination and water reuse systems play in achieving this goal. We thank the conference Chairmen Dr. Corrado Sommariva and Mr. Edoardo Garibotti, the Comune di Genova and the Governor of the Liguria Region Comune of Liguria, our partner Rotary Club, all our sponsors, supporters and members of the Technical Program Committee for their generous contributions to ensure that growth in the desalination and water reuse industry goes hand-in-hand with social responsibility,” said Shannon McCarthy, IDA Secretary General.
