According to WaterWorld, Fisia Italimpianti, a desalination company based in Italy, and their joint-venture partner, Abengoa – based in Spain – will design and build a 250,000cbm per day desalination facility as part of a US$255 million agreement they have with ACWA Power in the Shuaiba area, Saudi Arabia.
The facility will utilise reverse osmosis membrane technology to supply drinking water to over a million residents in the cities of Jeddah, Mecca, and Taif.
Fisia Italimpianti has already inked a Limited notice To Proceed (LNTP) with ACWA Power in order to begin the preparatory work.
The joint-venture expects the Full Notice To Proceed (FNTO) to be signed by the 27th of July, 2017. And will likely complete and hand over the facility by May in 2019.
