Energy Recovery has secured contracts worth about US$31 million to provide its PX Pressure Exchanger devices for seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination projects in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and other Gulf countries.
The new plants will supply more than 1.6 million cubic metres of fresh water per day. They are expected to save around 1,724 GWh of energy annually, equivalent to avoiding over 830,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Energy Recovery is scheduled to complete the contract deliveries by the end of Q4 2025.
Rodney Clemente, senior vice-president of water at Energy Recovery, commented: “We continue to see increased competitiveness in desalination technologies, which is driving demand for our suite of PX products. Fresh water is such a vital commodity that plant operators cannot risk downtime or unnecessary disruptions. The design of the PX gives it strong performance in harsh environments, while also reducing costs and emissions.”
The PX device can lower energy consumption in SWRO desalination by up to 60%. It achieves peak efficiency of 98% and is designed for a 30-year lifespan without scheduled maintenance.
