Dubai will be the site of the 2019 IDA World Congress – International Desalination Association

The International Desalination Association recently announced that it has chosen Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), as the host for its 2019 World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse. The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), renowned as an innovative and sustainable world-class utility, will be the host of the Congress, itself widely considered the preeminent event for the desalination and water reuse industry in the global arena.

Held once every two years, the IDA World Congress is attended by nearly 2,000 delegates from both the public and private sectors, and world leaders in all areas of desalination and water reuse, usually hailing from more than 60 nations.

“We are honoured to welcome Dubai Electricity & Water Authority as host of the 2019 IDA World Congress, and look forward to working together to make this important event one of the most successful in our history,” Secretary General of the IDA, Patricia A Burke, said. “We look forward to bringing our flagship event back to Dubai, where we presented our highly successful 2009 World Congress under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

“DEWA is eager to host the 2019 IDA World Congress. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise our support and efforts hand-on-hand towards the success of this world-class event,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, added. “DEWA is committed to sustainability and raising awareness about the importance of rationalising water consumption, protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. These themes are also important aspects of the IDA World Congress, providing an ideal forum to help advance these goals.”

Dubai was chosen after a rigorous review of bids by IDA’s Site Selection Committee, including a thorough analysis of information detailed on a numeric scorecard, followed by site visits to the four final candidates and a vote by the IDA Board of Directors.

The 2017 IDA World Congress will take place in São Paulo, Brazil, between the 15th and 20th of October, and will feature a robust four-day Technical programme, industry-leading Exhibition, Innovation Theatre, an awards programme, plant tours, and networking events.

Details about the dates and the venue for the 2019 IDA World Congress have yet to be announced.
