A Borger Multicrusher has resolved a long-standing issue at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), where the septage facility had been experiencing frequent blockages in its screening system.
The WWTP, which receives large volumes of septage delivered by tankers from areas not connected to the main sewer network, had seen maintenance costs for its screening system rise significantly. In addition, the cost of disposing of separated solids and fibres had reached unsustainable levels.
With the installation of the Borger Multicrusher, the plant is now able to macerate solids immediately as wastewater enters the system. This has not only reduced blockages, but also improved gas yield in the site’s anaerobic digesters, contributing to enhanced overall biological performance.
Due to space constraints at the facility, the Multicrusher needed to be compact. For ease of maintenance, the Borger unit was configured with a helical bevel geared motor and direct coupling. It is also equipped with a stone trap, while a reversing control function helps prevent heavy solids from obstructing the cutting mechanism.
