Biwater’s Center for Excellence in Desalination, Water Reuse and Membrane Treatment is one of the leading suppliers of desalination and reuse technology in the world, providing a total installed membrane treatment capacity of 2,082,000 m3/day (550 MGD). Being crowned a winner at the Global Water Awards then, should come as no surprise, for a company which prides itself on the completion of over 25,000 projects worldwide since its inception.
In the first half of 2020, membrane systems were shipped or commissioned to the following facilities:
- 25,500 m3/day (75 MGD) BWRO, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina
- 20,000 m3/day (2 MGD) LPRO, Westside Recycled Water Treatment Facility, San Francisco, California
- 17,000 m3/day (4.5 MGD) BWRO, Perris II Desalter, City of Menifee, California
- 13,600 m3/day (3.6 MGD) BWRO, Water Treatment Plant, City of Goodyear, Arizona
- 5,300 m3/day (1.4 MGD) RO, Water Treatment Plant, Walkersville, Maryland

Its latest state-of-the-art production facility, located in Rancho Cucamonga, California holds a capacity of 492,000 m3/day (130 MGD) and is three times larger than its previous one. Triply endearing, the building is also where water filtration, water reuse and desalination are done. The company has also been selected to supply the RO system for its final expansion phase of up to 113,500 m3/day (30 MGD).
Jorg Menningmann, president of Biwater’s Water Reuse and Desalination Sector gave his heartfelt congratulations to his team, who have continued to deliver for local communities whilst navigating their way through a global pandemic, citing their “ability to ensure business continuity in order to meet commitments and secure new project wins.” In addition, he noted that the level of professionalism and employees’ relentless dedication to their work were two crucial ingredients toward the company’s overall success. From the establishment of its very first desalination plant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the company has grown organically to its current state, positioning itself as an international leader in the desalination industry.
