Bionetix has introduced ENVIA ESSENTIAL, a ready-to-use enzymatic concentrate designed to help food service, food processing and waste processing facilities manage organic build-up in hard-water drainage and disposal systems.
The three-enzyme formula targets fats, proteins and starch residues, which can contribute to the formation and stabilisation of hard-water deposits. By breaking down these organic residues, the product is designed to loosen accumulated build-up during routine drain and grease trap maintenance.
David S. Llano, product manager at Bionetix International, said: “ENVIA ESSENTIAL was developed to address one of the most persistent maintenance challenges in commercial drainage systems: the interaction between organic residues and hard-water minerals. By targeting the organic fraction of these deposits, facilities can maintain cleaner drainage infrastructure and reduce the frequency of corrective interventions.”
Why are drain clogs worse in hard water?
Restaurants and commercial kitchens face ongoing challenges in maintaining flow and controlling odours in drains, pipes and grease traps affected by food waste. In hard-water conditions, organic residues can bind with minerals such as calcium and magnesium, forming solid deposits that can restrict flow and contribute to blockages.
An alternative to acid cleaners
Enzymes can provide an alternative to acid cleaners and mechanical methods of scale removal. ENVIA ESSENTIAL contains three enzymes — protease, amylase and lipase — that target different types of food waste commonly found in grease traps and restaurant drains.
Working together, the enzymes break down organic residues that bind with minerals and contribute to deposits. This can loosen the structure of the build-up, allowing it to be removed through normal drainage flow.
Managing scale build-up
Scale formation is common in hard-water systems, but routine maintenance can help limit the accumulation of organic waste that contributes to deposits. ENVIA ESSENTIAL is designed for use in grease traps, industrial floor drains, lift stations and sewer pipes, where regular application can help manage organic build-up and maintain drainage flow.
