France-based BIO-UV Group has expanded its presence in Southern Europe by appointing Italian marine solutions company Navaltecnica Srl as its exclusive agent and distributor for ballast water and shipboard water treatment systems in Italy.
Under the agreement, Navaltecnica will promote and support the BIO-SEA range of ballast water treatment systems, along with BIO-UV Group’s disinfection technologies for drinking and leisure water on board vessels. The partnership will initially focus on Italy’s yacht, cruise, and naval shipbuilding sectors, where demand for compliant and efficient water treatment technologies continues to increase.
“The Italian maritime industry is known for its innovation and quality, from luxury yacht construction to complex naval programmes,” said Maxime Dedeurwaerder, solutions sales director at BIO-UV Group. “Partnering with Navaltecnica allows us to bring our treatment technologies closer to customers in these sectors, supported by a company that understands both the technical and operational requirements of the market.”
BIO-UV Group, headquartered in Lunel, France, develops and manufactures water treatment and disinfection systems based on ultraviolet, salt electrolysis, ozone, and AOP technologies. Its BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system, approved by both the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the US Coast Guard, uses filtration and UV disinfection without chemicals and has been installed on more than 800 vessels worldwide.
Sergio de Iudicibus, chief executive officer of Navaltecnica, described the collaboration as a natural extension of the company’s commitment to sustainable water treatment. “For over two decades, we have supplied and serviced water treatment equipment to the Italian maritime sector,” he said. “BIO-UV Group’s technology is among the most reliable and environmentally responsible available today. Representing BIO-SEA in Italy allows us to provide clients with proven solutions for ballast water management and onboard water quality that meet international standards.”
Navaltecnica will also offer local after-sales and technical support for BIO-SEA systems, including commissioning, crew training, and maintenance, helping to reduce response times and improve lifecycle support for shipowners and operators.
Dedeurwaerder added: “Italy is a key market for BIO-UV Group, not only for newbuild projects but also for retrofit opportunities. With Navaltecnica’s technical expertise and strong reputation, we are confident this cooperation will reinforce our presence and support more shipowners in achieving regulatory compliance efficiently.”
The agreement aligns with BIO-UV Group’s broader strategy to strengthen its European distribution network through partnerships with established maritime engineering specialists, combining local expertise with the company’s R&D and manufacturing capabilities in France.
