ABB and DHI Group join forces to create sustainable water management solutions

ABB seals deal with Danish water environment specialist to jointly develop next generation of smart water solutions driving more mindful use of water.

ABB and DHI Group, a Danish water environment specialist, have signed a partnership agreement which will see both companies develop a suite of digital solutions to enable faster and more accurate decision making for water and wastewater utilities. These solutions will empower customers in this segment to better control water availability and improve plant operational efficiency from both a process and energy optimization perspective.

Danilo Moresco, head of power and water businesses at ABB Energy Industries, said: “Through this collaboration, we want to facilitate a more mindful use of water, a resource we have taken for granted for far too long. Using just the right amount of water when it’s needed and ensuring it is safe and clean when it re-enters the cycle is essential to ensuring a sustainable approach to water usage.

“As solutions providers, we have a responsibility to put our technology at the service of more sustainable businesses, and the partnership with DHI in the water space signals a big step in that direction.”

Through collaboration and analysis of data from the planet, as well as through digital twin models and applications for optimisation, ABB and DHI add to the foundations for an integrated ecosystem of digital solutions which will allow for advanced control and more sustainable operations of water and wastewater facilities.

Mette Vestergaard, CEO of DHI, concluded: “DHI is committed to finding new innovative ways to use and live with water to ensure a sustainable supply for our planet. ABB’s expertise is a perfect match with DHI’s domain knowledge and digital know-how. I am proud that together we will develop new solutions to save and protect water, and bring significant benefits to the management of water distribution and wastewater treatment.”

The new suite of digital solutions to optimise water use and availability is expected to be unveiled next year.
