In the recently-concluded Edison Awards 2017, member of The De Beers Group of Companies and global leader in synthetic diamond supermaterials, Element Six, disclosed that its DIAMOX™ wastewater treatment technology brought home the gold in the environmental quality category.
The winners had been announced in the 30th Edison Awards, held yearly, in New York on the 20th of April. Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards in the industry, the award honours innovation and acknowledges excellence in new products and service developments, human-centred design and innovation, as well as marketing.
Designed and manufactured especially to treat highly-contaminated industrial wastewater, DIAMOX™ is an electrochemical cell that uses synthetic industrial diamond electrodes to mineralise contaminants that have been dissolved in the water. Previously, methods for eliminating pollutants in wastewater frequently came with long, multi-step procedures that included electrochemical cells, ultraviolet (UV) light, and strong chemicals much like bleach. Now, DIAMOX™ shortens the process to a single step and allows it to be absolutely electrochemical, making it safer to use, more user-friendly, cost effective, and more environmentally sustainable. Tests on DIAMOX™ have proven it able to treat the wastewater to a point that it is safe to return to the environment, and was successful in treating even the most challenging of industrial wastewaters that have been written off as arduous or impossible to treat by conventional methods.

From the time of its introduction to the present time, DIAMOX™ technology has successfully treated pharmaceutical wastewater, refinery spent caustics treatment, and textile dye house wastewater treatments.
